In the last few moments, an American Airlines flight between Fort Myers and Charlotte has declared an emergency.
Limited information has come out regarding this event.

American Airlines AA1646 – Fort Myers to Charlotte…
American Airlines flight AA1646, which declared an emergency is a routine scheduled flight between Fort Myers and Charlotte.
The affected rotation involved in the emergency is N191UW.
As per data from Planespotters.net, N191UW is a 23.2 year old Airbus A321ceo that started out life with US Airways in March 2001.
Following the merger with American Airlines, the aircraft was handed over to them in December 2013.
Of the A321ceo variant, the U.S carrier has 218 of them.
Furthermore, of that 218, all but four are in active service, hosting an average fleet age of 11.8 years.
AA1646 departed from Fort Myers at 0558 local time this morning and proceeded northbound to Charlotte.
Over the Savannah area, the aircraft declared an emergency and descended from FL350 down to FL100.
At the time of publication, the aircraft is still in the air.
Reason for Emergency Unclear Currently…
At this stage, it is unclear what the nature of the emergency is onboard American Airlines AA1646 between Fort Myers and Charlotte.
As soon as we have more information pertinent to this, then we will update you accordingly.
Such a descent being made indicates some form of technical issue, but it is still unclear at this time.

AA1646 has made an additional descent from 9.800 feet down to 8,000 feet as they continue to track towards CLT.

On the current track they are on, AA1646 can go for a straight-in approach for it’s emergency landing into CLT.

AA1646 has changed it’s squawk code from 7700 to 1001. We will continue to monitor until it’s arrival.
Descent Continued…
AA1646 is continuing it’s descent into Charlotte.

AA1646 is descending through 5,000 feet as the American Airlines A321 prepares for landing.
No straight-in approach needed in this case, with the emergency under control.
