UPDATE #1 @ 1515 UK time – American Airlines flight AA9600 Barcelona-New York u-turned north over A Coruna.

UPDATE #2 @ 1516 UK time – AA9600 will be diverting to London Heathrow, as per reports currently.

UPDATE #3 @ 1519 UK time – As per Planespotters, N794AN is a 23.0 year old Boeing 777-200ER that was delivered to the airline brand new in December 2000.

Of the 777-200 variant, American Airlines has 47 of them, of which 41 are in active service and six are parked, offering an average age of 23.0 years.

UPDATE #4 @ 1522 UK time – AA9600, the flight from Barcelona originally bound for New York, continues to track north-east in the direction of London Heathrow, it’s chosen emergency diversion airfield. No indication into reason for emergency yet.

UPDATE #5 @ 1525 UK time – Understood that AA9600 has now changed it’s squawk code to a standard code, but the diversion still ongoing.

UPDATE #6 @ 1550 UK time – American Airlines flight AA9600 is off the northern coast of France as the emergency diversion to London Heathrow continues.

UPDATE #8 @ 1607 UK time – Understood that AA9600 is diverting to London Heathrow due to a technical issue. It is understood this aircraft is a ferry flight with no passengers onboard.

UPDATE #9 @ 1611 UK time – AA9600, originally bound for Barcelona from New York, is passing through FL240 just off the coast of England.

UPDATE #10 @ 1624 UK time – AA9600 is on the downwind leg for the 09s at London Heathrow Airport.

UPDATE #11 @ 1631 UK time – AA9600 is on final approach at Heathrow Airport.

UPDATE #12 @ 1635 UK time – TOUCHDOWN! American Airlines flight AA9600, originally bound for New York JFK from Barcelona, has appeared to have safely touched down at London Heathrow following an emergency call around an hour ago.
