Air France A330 from Paris to Yaoundé declares emergency

An Air France Airbus A330 operating from Paris Charles de Gaulle to Yaoundé, Cameroon has declared an emergency shortly after takeoff. The flight is currently making a return to Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG).

Air France flight AF912, an Airbus A330 operating a scheduled service from Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) to Yaoundé Nsimalen International Airport (NSI), Cameroon, declared an emergency shortly after departure, squawking 7700.

Flight AF912 made a delayed departure out of Paris Charles de Gaulle this afternoon according to flight data.; showing an actual time of departure of 16:32 CEST (14:32 UTC), against scheduled depart time of 15:40 CEST.

The flight was within the Paris flight region when it declared the emergency with squawk code 7700 just after departure, before negotiating an expedited return.

The aircraft had climbed through 16,000 feet and was establishing on the outbound track for Cameroon, before it terminated the climb and squawked transponder code 7700 at 14:46 UTC, approximately 15 minutes after departure.

The nature of the emergency resulting in the decision to abort this afternoon’s flight is not yet known.

Air France flight AF912 has now returned and landed CDG.

The aircraft operating today’s service was an Airbus A330-200 registered F-GZCA; a 22-year old widebody aircraft belonging to the French national flag carrier.

The cause of yesterday’s return to Paris was the detection of fumes on the flightdeck as the Air France flight departed CDG.
