In the last few moments, an Aeroregional Boeing 737-500 from Quito to Loja has declared an emergency and is diverting to Guayaquil.

This is a developing story. Updates to follow.

UPDATE #1 @ 2155 UK time – Following its holds to the north, Aeroregional flight 877 from Quito has appeared to have safely landed into Guayaquil. The cause of the emergency is unknown at this time.

UPDATE #2 @ 2156 UK time – As per Planespotters, HC-CUH is a 32.2 year old airframe, which started out life with China Southern Airlines back in August 1991.

From there, it proceeded to Aerolineas Argentinas in February 2006, before heading to Wells Fargo Bank Northwest in 2012.

Between January 2014-February 2019, it traded hands with the likes of Sudamericana de Aviacion, LAc Linea Aerea Cuencana, EasySky Airlines & Global Air before being handed over to Aeroregional.

UPDATE #3 @ 2157 UK time – Unsure whether it is faulty ADS-B data or not, but Aeroregional flight RER877 has tracked nowhere near the runway or the taxiways at Guayaquil. Awaiting confirmation on this at this time.

UPDATE #4 @ 2159 UK time – Here is the overall route that the Boeing 737-500 performed, with the aircraft expected to have proceeded to Loja, which is south of Guayaquil.

UPDATE #5 @ 2205 UK time – Looks to be an ADS-B bug, with reports coming in that the aircraft has vacated safely and made it to stand on its own power.
