In the last few moments, a SWISS Airbus A330, bound for New York’s Newark from Zurich, has declared an emergency and is inbound to Paris.
As per RadarBox.com, SWR18N, looks to be descending into London Heathrow, and will result in a diversion caused by this emergency.
At this time, it is unclear what the cause of the emergency is, but is serious enough to cause such a diversion.
This is a developing story.
SWISS Flight Bound for New York Declares Emergency: Updates
UPDATE #1 @ 1813 UK time – SWR18N, originally bound for New York, looks to be entering some form of hold, presumably to burn weight and fuel before a potential diversion into the UK?
UPDATE #3 @ 1817 UK time – At this moment in time, it is unclear what the cause of the emergency is, which is causing this descent, hold, and subsequently diversion rather than continuing on to New York.
UPDATE #4 @ 1820 UK time – Current ADS-B data from SWISS flight SWR18N, with the descent being quite rapid. Depressurisation potentially?
UPDATE #5 @ 1821 UK time – The Airbus A330-343E operating the SWISS flight originally for New York is HB-JHL, a 11.4-year-old aircraft, that has been with the airline since February 2012. Quite the loop the aircraft has done for its diversion to London Heathrow.
UPDATE #6 @ 1825 UK time – SWR18N currently tracking South toward the coast of France, the diversion airport is still unclear at this time.
UPDATE #7 @ 1829 UK time – SWR18N continues to still track South towards the French coast. Could this be a diversion to Paris Charles de Gaulle or Orly potentially?
UPDATE #8 @ 1832 UK time – Diversion into Paris looks more likely after each nautical mile flown by the SWISS Airbus A330 that was initially bound for New York from Zurich.
UPDATE #9 @ 1836 UK time – Diversion Airport has been confirmed as Paris Charles de Gaulle.
UPDATE #10 @ 1843 UK time – SWR18N has begun its descent into Paris Charles de Gaulle, with the aircraft still squawking 7700 at this time.
UPDATE #11 @ 1846 UK time – SWR18N is approaching the base leg portion of the approach into Paris CDG currently.
UPDATE #12 @ 1848 UK time – SWISS flight SWR18N, originally bound for New York, is on final approach into Paris CDG to complete its diversion.
UPDATE #13 @ 1853 UK time – SWR18N has safely landed at Paris Charles de Gaulle following a potentially failed diversion into London Heathrow. It is unclear when the aircraft will be continuing on to New York.
AviationSource will approach SWISS for a comment on this emergency.
UPDATE #14 @ 1907 UK time – Above is the timelapse of SWR18N’s routing that took it over London, Southend, and down to Paris CDG for its diversion.
UPDATE #15 @ 1918 UK time – @FlightEmergency confirms what we expected. SWR18N diverted to Paris CDG due to a pressurization issue onboard the Airbus A330.
