UPDATE #2 @ 1815 UK time – SWISS flight SWR18N is descending through 13,000 feet over the area of Southend.

UPDATE #3 @ 1817 UK time – At this moment in time, it is unclear what the cause of the emergency is, which is causing this descent, hold, and subsequently diversion rather than continuing on to New York.

UPDATE #5 @ 1821 UK time – The Airbus A330-343E operating the SWISS flight originally for New York is HB-JHL, a 11.4-year-old aircraft, that has been with the airline since February 2012. Quite the loop the aircraft has done for its diversion to London Heathrow.

UPDATE #11 @ 1846 UK time – SWR18N is approaching the base leg portion of the approach into Paris CDG currently.

UPDATE #12 @ 1848 UK time – SWISS flight SWR18N, originally bound for New York, is on final approach into Paris CDG to complete its diversion.

UPDATE #13 @ 1853 UK time – SWR18N has safely landed at Paris Charles de Gaulle following a potentially failed diversion into London Heathrow. It is unclear when the aircraft will be continuing on to New York.
