Corfu Airport in Greece is less than a week away from its Summer 2023 demand expecting to ramp up its movement numbers.
Using data from RadarBox.com, we will establish when this peak will begin to ramp up, as well as how the airport has been performing in its quiet periods.
Without further ado, let’s get into the numbers…
Corfu Airport’s Slow Numbers Have Increased…
For March 19-26, Corfu Airport handled 15 movements, which represents an increase of 25% compared to the same period last year.
The figure is also six movements ahead of the same period in 2019, which shows further growth at periods where movements are less likely to come in.
Below is the last four weeks’ worth of data for the airport:
|Date||2019 Numbers||2022 Numbers||2023 Numbers||Percentage Difference (2023 vs. 2022)|
|February 19-26||7 movements||9 movements||7 movements||-22.22%|
|February 26-March 5||6 movements||9 movements||14 movements||+55.56%|
|March 5-12||7 movements||10 movements||14 movements||+40.00%|
|March 12-19||8 movements||10 movements||11 movements||+10.00%|
What we can see from the data is that even in the quiet periods, the airport is still performing better year-on-year.
March 26-April 2: The Summer Madness Begins…
What we can see from historical data is that March 26-April 2 is when the airport begins to ramp up movements ahead of the Summer season.
We can see that in the 2022 period, 33 movements were handled, which was a 371.43% increase compared to the same period in 2021.
Below is the next four weeks ahead for Corfu Airport as the ramp-up to the Summer begins:
|Date||2019 Numbers||2021 Numbers||2022 Numbers||Percentage Difference (2022 vs. 2021)|
|April 2-9||40 movements||6 movements||38 movements||+533.33%|
|April 9-16||41 movements||6 movements||49 movements||+716.67%|
|April 16-23||49 movements||7 movements||51 movements||+628.57%|
|April 23-30||70 movements||9 movements||58 movements||+544.44%|
What we can see from the data is that the numbers sharply increase throughout April and go even higher in the typical Summer months as well.
The Summer 2023 season is expected to be just as busy, if not busier, than Summer 2022, so it remains clear that we will see further percentage increases for Corfu Airport.
At its highest Summer peak, the airport can handle around 200-210 movements based on the seven-day rolling average provided by the flight tracking company.
It remains clear that next week is going to be an important one for Corfu Airport as the path toward the Summer 2023 season begins.
Looking ahead, it’s going to be interesting to see whether we will see more flights operate at the airport based on scheduling put forward by holiday carriers.
For now, all eyes are on the airport to secure as much Summer revenue as possible before things die down for the Winter 2023/24 season.
