An incredible highlight from 2023 was when IndiGo stole the Paris Air Show by ordering 500 Airbus aircraft.
Looking back at the Historic Deal from IndiGo…
The vast majority of orders from Airbus came on Day 1 of the Paris Air Show, selling 533 units in a single day.
Of the 533, 500 of that directly goes to Indian low-cost carrier IndiGo who opted for A320 family aircraft, with no overall breakdown of how that order will split up.
This new order, including their existing backlog from previous orders total 1,330 Airbus A320 family aircraft that IndiGo has agreed with the European manufacturer.
Commenting on this historical moment for not just Airbus, but for IndiGo as well. Their Chief Executive Officer, Peter Elbers, said the following on this:
“It is difficult to overstate the significance of IndiGo’s new historic order for 500 Airbus A320 Family aircraft.”
“An order book now of almost 1000 aircraft well into the next decade, enables IndiGo to fulfil its mission to continue to boost economic growth, social cohesion and mobility in India.”
“At IndiGo, we take pride in being India’s preferred airline for connectivity in and with India; and by doing so, being one of the leading airlines in the world.”
“This order strongly reaffirms IndiGo’s belief in the growth of India, in the A320 Family and in our strategic partnership with Airbus.”
Airbus’ Chief Commercial Officer and Head of International, Christian Scherer, also said:
“This landmark order marks a new chapter in Airbus and the airline’s relationship that is democratising affordable air travel for millions of people in the world’s fastest growing aviation market.”
