The Greater Toronto Airports Authority (GTAA) is launching a new marketing campaign “At Your Airport this Summer” to recognize a successful summer travel season at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ).

A Record-Breaking Summer

This campaign aims to celebrate and share Pearson Airport’s achievements over the course of the summer 2023 travel season, showcasing the scale of its operations and highlighting the smooth movement of people and bags.

Passenger Movements

One of the standout numbers that demands attention is the staggering 12.6 million passengers who graced the terminals of Pearson Airport during the summer of 2023.

This figure marks an impressive increase of nearly a million passengers compared to the same period in the previous year.

Luggage Handling

But Toronto Pearson didn’t stop at passenger numbers. The Pearson team went above and beyond, meticulously handling a massive 8.3 million pieces of luggage during the summer season.

This remarkable feat showcases their dedication and efficiency, especially when considering that it’s an increase of over a million pieces of luggage compared to the summer of 2022.

Air Traffic

The skies above Toronto Pearson were alive with activity, with a remarkable 100,000 flights taking off and landing on its runways.

This number includes a diverse mix of commercial, general aviation, and cargo planes, surpassing the already impressive statistics of the summer of 2022. It’s a testament to the airport’s pivotal role in connecting people, goods, and opportunities.

Airport Statement

In the words of Karen Mazurkewich, the vice-president of stakeholder relations and communications at GTAA, “We are proud of the successful operations that took place during the summer travel season at Toronto Pearson.”

And indeed, they have every reason to be proud. These numbers not only reflect the sheer volume of passengers passing through Canada’s largest and most connected hub.

They also speak volumes about the steady progress made by Pearson’s dedicated employees and partners since the summer of 2022.

Toronto Pearson is the largest and busiest airport in Canada and the second-busiest international air passenger gateway in the Americas.

It is a hub for Air Canada, WestJet, Porter Airlines, Air Transat, and Sunwing Airlines. The airport serves over 50 million passengers annually and offers direct flights to over 190 destinations worldwide.

YYZ is located 22.5 kilometres (14.0 mi) northwest of Downtown Toronto with the majority of the airport situated in Mississauga and a small portion of the airfield, along Silver Dart Drive north of Renforth Drive, extending into Toronto’s western district of Etobicoke.

It has five runways and two passenger terminals along with numerous cargo and maintenance facilities on a site that covers 1,867 hectares (4,613 acres).
