Newark Liberty International Airport’s brand new Terminal A has achieved a major milestone, earning a coveted five-star rating from Skytrax, the aviation industry ratings firm.

This prestigious recognition solidifies Terminal A’s position as a world-class facility, offering exceptional service and amenities to travelers.

The Skytrax five-star rating is a mark of excellence, awarded only to airports and terminals that demonstrate exceptional standards across all aspects of the passenger experience.

This includes everything from the design and functionality of the terminal itself to the quality of customer service provided by staff.

Terminal A: Raising the Bar

“We set out to raise the bar with Terminal A,” said Port Authority Chairman Kevin O’Toole, highlighting the project’s focus on innovative architecture, a streamlined layout, and engaging local art installations. “This stellar evaluation proves we’ve accomplished exactly that.”

With this achievement, Newark joins LaGuardia Airport’s Terminal B as the only two facilities in North America to boast a five-star Skytrax rating.

This distinction signifies the Port Authority’s commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure. The new facility raises the travel experience for passengers in the New York and New Jersey region.

Opened in phases throughout 2023, the $2.7 billion Terminal A represents a significant investment for the Port Authority.

The 1 million-square-foot facility has already served 15 million passengers in its first year, a substantial increase compared to the previous terminal.

Terminal Facilities

Travelers at Terminal A can expect a range of modern amenities. This includes a children’s play area, and digital technology for enhanced navigation. Shoppers can find a diverse selection of local dining and retail options.

The terminal also caters to passengers with specific needs. It features a sensory room for those seeking a calming space and a children’s library curated by a local student.

This achievement extends beyond just passenger experience. Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers expressed pride in the collaboration with the Port Authority. He highlighted the Munich Airport Group’s unique position as the operator of two five-star facilities on different continents.

“We are honored to be recognized as a five-star airport terminal,” said Michael Kunz, CEO of Munich Airport NJ LLC.

“This rating positions Newark Terminal A among an elite group in North America. It’s a testament to the dedication of our team members who strive to make every journey through the terminal a special one.”

Skytrax itself praised Terminal A’s exceptional range of passenger facilities, clear signage, and high standards of service.

They also highlighted the innovative multimedia features that contribute to the unique and differentiating experience offered by the terminal.

A List of Accolades

Beyond the Skytrax rating, Terminal A has garnered a collection of other accolades since its opening. This includes a UNESCO Prix Versailles Special Prize for its architecture, and LEED Gold certification for its environmental responsibility.

An architectural recognition as the 2023 Project of the Year by the American Society of Civil Engineers in New Jersey was also achieved.

Newark Liberty International Airport’s Terminal A has clearly taken flight, establishing itself as a premier travel hub in North America.

This five-star recognition from Skytrax is a well-deserved validation of the exceptional facilities and services offered to passengers.
