Menzies Aviation, a global leader in providing essential services to airports and airlines, has secured seven ground handling licenses from the Spanish Airport Authority (AENA).
The award of seven ramp licences came as part of a major tender encompassing a total of 41 licenses at 43 airports throughout Spain.
The Spanish tender is largest ground handling tender in the world, estimated to be worth more than 5 billion EUR in total.
The recently awarded clutch of ground handling licences for the global service provider has cemented Menzies’ position as a key player in the Spanish ground services sector.
The awarded ground handling licenses cover a strategic selection of airports in Spain:
- Barcelona (BCN)
- Palma Mallorca (PMI)
- Malaga (AGP)
- Alicante (ALC)
- Gran Canaria (LPA)
- Tenerife Sur (TFS)
- Tenerife Norte (TFN)
These licenses are slated to be in effect for seven years, spanning from early 2024 to 2031, during which Menzies will provide comprehensive ramp and passenger services at the seven airports.
Menzies Aviation is committed to upholding best-in-class standards and fostering sustainability across its Spanish operations. To achieve this, the company will undertake several initiatives, including:
Upskilling Employees: Menzies will provide its new employees with industry-leading safety, training, and operational procedures to ensure a safe and efficient work environment.
Investing in Electric Ground Service Equipment: The introduction of brand-new electric Ground Service Equipment (GSE) equipped with telematics and cutting-edge safety devices will enhance both safety and sustainability.
Digital Aircraft Turn-Around: A roadmap for a new-generation digital aircraft turn-around process will be developed, positively impacting ramp efficiency, safety, and sustainability.
Integration of IT Systems: Menzies will ensure that its operational IT systems are seamlessly connected and integrated with airport and airline IT platforms.
