Mangaluru International Airport (IXE) closed out 2023 with an impressive feat on the passenger front.

The month of December stood out as a landmark period, witnessing the airport handle an unprecedented 2.03 lakh (200,000) passengers, marking a remarkable achievement since its initial commercial operation date of October 31, 2020.

The passenger throughflow reached its peak on December 31, 2023, as the airport not only surpassed previous records but also managed 7,548 passengers in a single day, outshining the prior mark set on November 25, 2023.

Mangaluru December Performance

Contributing significantly to the record-breaking 2.03 lakh passengers were the 12 days in December when the airport efficiently managed over 7000 passengers each day.

New Year’s Eve marked the pinnacle with 7,548 passengers, encapsulating the celebratory spirit.

Notably, weekends in December, specifically December 9-10, 16-17, 23-25, and 30-31, played a pivotal role in this surge, with footfalls recording 7089, 7220, and 7034 respectively in the three days leading up to Christmas.

November’s Steady Climb

In the preceding month of November 2023, the airport had already showcased its prowess by handling 1.78 lakh passengers, setting a benchmark since its COD.

This consistent rise in numbers serves as a clear indicator that the aviation industry, both domestically and internationally, is experiencing an upward trajectory despite various challenges.

Mangaluru International Airport takes pride in playing a crucial role in this growth, with key contributions from leading airlines such as Air India, Air India Express, and IndiGo.

Uptick in Air Traffic Movements

The surge in air traffic movements (ATMs) has been noticeable since October 29, 2023, coinciding with the commencement of the winter schedule.

In December 2023 alone, Mangaluru International Airport recorded a commendable 1388 ATMs, including 1096 domestic movements.

This upswing in both business and leisure travel has been a driving force behind the steadily increasing footfalls at the airport.

As of now, Mangaluru International Airport serves as a vital gateway, connecting travelers to nine domestic destinations, including six direct routes, and facilitating access to seven international destinations.

The seamless connectivity provided by the airport underscores its significance in the region and contributes to the overall positive trend in passenger numbers.
