Manchester Airport handled 2.1m passengers in March, which is 12% better than the same period last year.

It is also 100,000 passengers higher than the pre-pandemic level (2019), where 2m passengers were handled.

Initial numbers for this month look strong, with 320,000 passengers using the airport on the Easter bank holiday weekend, which is 8% up.

The most popular destinations for Manchester Airport last month were:

  • Dublin – 95,254 passengers
  • Amsterdam – 93,838 passengers
  • Dubai – 92,554 passengers
  • Tenerife – 88,330 passengers
  • Alicante – 65,824 passengers

Such numbers means that this is the sixth month in a row that the airport has broken it’s passenger records.

Commenting on the strong results was Manchester Airport Managing Director Chris Woodroofe:

“We are proud to serve the people of the North.”

“On the surface that means offering an unrivalled range of more than 200 destinations, great service so that passengers never wait more than a few minutes to get to security and world class facilities in our terminals.”

“But beneath the surface there is a huge amount of work that goes into making that happen.”

“We’re in the middle of a £1.3bn programme that is completely transforming the airport.”

“A key component of that is this new baggage system that will help make sure things continue to run smoothly behind the scenes.”

“So while passengers will see the difference as they pass through Terminal 2 – which has already won the prestigious Prix Versailles award for its architecture and design – equally important changes have been made in the parts of the airport that most people will never see meaning that as demand for travel continues to increase, the service we offer our passengers continues to improve.”
