Manchester Airport has this week announced the handling of 1.9m passengers in February 2024, with plenty of opportunities heading their way.

Like with other airports within the MAG group, significant boosts in numbers have been recorded due to the half-term period.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

The Numbers from Manchester Airport…

For February 2024, Manchester Airport handled 1.9m passengers, which is their highest February on record.

The most popular destinations for the airport, in terms of passenger numbers. last month were as follows:

  1. Dublin – 86,839
  2. Dubai – 85,227
  3. Amsterdam – 83,797
  4. Tenerife – 78,552
  5. Doha – 61,045

Commenting on the successes was Manchester Airport Managing Director Chris Woodroofe:

“We’re here to serve the people of the North and it’s clear that they are really excited to travel this year.”

“We keep breaking our monthly passenger records which is great to see – but what’s especially pleasing is that we’re providing a really good service to everyone who travels with us, with no-one waiting more than 15 minutes to get to security.”

“We’ve put a lot of work into making sure people’s airport experience is as seamless as possible including recruiting lots of extra security staff and making sure we remind people to plan for their journeys by remembering the things like not inadvertently bringing items that will slow their progress through security, like liquids in containers greater than 100mls.”

“All this comes as work continues on our epic Transformation Programme.”

“Terminal 2 isn’t even finished yet and it’s already been named one of the most beautiful in the world.”

“We’re confident passengers will get a great experience whether they’re travelling at Easter or later in the year.”

Opportunities for the Summer…

Looking to the Summer, Manchester Airport is getting themselves ready for what is expected to be a busy period.

Recently, like with London Stansted, the airport received a new thrice-weekly service to Amman with Royal Jordanian.

On top of this, services to Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc will also take off in June.

Woodroofe added to this, saying that there are some more upcoming announcements on the way:

“The summer season is just around the corner and we’re really excited for everything that’s coming.”

“We’ve recently seen our inaugural flight to Amman with Royal Jordanian Airlines take off and have just announced flights to Casablanca with Royal Air Maroc.”

“Our first flights to Las Vegas take off in June and we have a few more announcements up our sleeves.”

Some examples of this have already been noted by those in the community.

First off, as is subject to change, SAUDIA have gained an additional slot to provide six weekly flights in total from Jeddah.

Also, there is talk that a new Chinese carrier will be coming to Manchester Airport this June.

Juneyao Air and China Eastern Airlines are currently battling to see who will secure this slot.

Special dispensation rules in China means that only one carrier can service a particular route.

All eyes will be on who will win out of this battle, but is still a significant development for Manchester Airport.

Overall…

In conclusion, Manchester Airport is performing extremely well, with this expected to follow into the Summer too.

All eyes will be on what additional announcements the airport will have before this busy period commences.

With the Transformation Programme continuing at strong pace, this will entice further investment in the future.

But for now, let’s see how 2024 goes for the airport.
