In anticipation of the winter super peak, Velana International Airport (VIA) in the Maldives is gearing up for an unprecedented surge in jet arrivals.

The latest expansion in parking slots, specifically the newly developed RAMP areas, marks a new achievement for the airport, positioning VIA to effortlessly handle a historic number of 68 jets simultaneously.

A Leap in Capacity and Efficiency

Before the strategic development of these designated parking slots, Velana could host a maximum of 39 aircraft.

However, the recent enhancements, strategically placed in front of the new Fuel Farm and at the southwest corner, have revolutionized the airport’s capabilities, allowing it to cater to 68 jets concurrently.

The new parking area is located on the southwest side and an additional 27,590 sqm in the north, strategically placed in front of the new fuel farm.

Meeting the Winter Peak Demand

These initiatives are not merely infrastructural expansions; they are a response to the escalating demand for air travel to the Maldives during the winter peak.

As the tropical paradise becomes a sought-after destination, VIA is poised to ensure a seamless and enjoyable travel experience for all visitors.

The Impact on General Aviation

The newly designated parking areas for General Aviation (GA) aircraft play a pivotal role in this expansion.

Not only does it increase VIA’s overall capacity, but it also underscores the airport’s commitment to accommodating diverse aviation needs.

General Aviation enthusiasts can also now experience the convenience of enhanced parking facilities, making VIA a preferred choice for a wide range of aircraft.

The Winter Peak Advantage

As winter sets in and the influx of travelers peaks, VIA’s readiness for the super peak is evident.

The expanded parking slots translate to quicker turnaround times for arriving and departing flights, minimizing delays and enhancing overall travel experience.
