A busy October with nearly 7 million passengers at London Heathrow has propelled the UK’s major hub airport to the 4th largest globally.
A Half-Term Highlight: 2.2 Million Passengers
London Heathrow Airport (LHR) saw a strong surge in activity last month, welcoming nearly 7 million passengers. This robust traffic has positioned the London hub as the 4th largest airport globally, setting the stage for a busy festive travel season.
During the October half-term, the terminals buzzed with the energy of 2.2 million passengers. Among the top destinations were the perennial favorites – Dubai, New York, and Los Angeles.
Despite the challenges posed by weeks of heavy rain and two named storms, Team Heathrow’s dedication ensured seamless operations and exceptional service.

Heathrow’s 12th “Millionaire Route”
Adding to its list of achievements, LHR welcomed Hong Kong as its 12th “millionaire route” for the year.
Surpassing 1 million passengers, Hong Kong joined the ranks of other high-traffic routes like Doha, JFK, and Delhi, showcasing Heathrow’s global connectivity.
For sun-seekers planning a winter escape, Heathrow now offers an even broader selection with 11 new airline routes.
Notable among them is the UK’s exclusive direct connection to Peru. Additionally, Heathrow now boasts more flights to ski destinations worldwide than any other UK airport, solidifying its status as a premier hub with 239 destinations across 89 countries.

Heathrow’s Holiday Prep
Looking ahead to the upcoming holiday peaks, the London airport is gearing up with a range of enticing retail offerings.
Travelers can look forward to opportunities to win Christmas vouchers for renowned retailers such as Watches for Switzerland, inMotion, Rituals, and World Duty Free.
The airport’s Christmas ad campaign adds a festive touch, highlighting the joy of holiday travel and the importance of being with loved ones.
A CEO’s Perspective
Heathrow’s CEO, Thomas Woldbye, expressed his admiration for the dedication of Heathrow colleagues: ““I’ve learned a lot about Heathrow in my first few weeks, but one thing that really stands out to me is the passion and drive of colleagues to get people away smoothly on their journeys.”
Woldbye extended a warm welcome to travelers worldwide, emphasizing the airport’s readiness to make the festive season memorable.
“From attractive shops catering to gifting needs to family-friendly restaurants, Heathrow aims to provide a seamless start to holiday plans,” he concluded.
