Hamburg Airport Handles 13.6 Million Passengers in 2023

Diving into the details, Hamburg Airport (HAM) in Germany has handled a total of 13.6 million passengers during 2023, an increase of 22% compared to 2022’s 11.1 million.

Not only has the German airport seen significant growth in passengers numbers, but the airport has now surpassed pre-COVID (2019) load factor levels, with an average of 80%, which is 2.2% higher than 2019’s load factor figure of 77.8%.

In terms of market share for Hamburg Airport, private travel held just under 80% with business travel holding just above 20%.

During 2023, the German airport set a record-breaking October, handling 1.45 million passengers, a weekly record of 342,000 passengers, and on Friday October 13, 2023, a daily record of 56,500 passengers was set.

For the year, Hamburg held approximately 120,300 take offs and landings, a 9.8% increase compared to 2022’s 109,600 take offs and landings. However, this is still circa 35,000 fewer movements below pre-COVID levels where 2019 saw 155,200 take offs and landings.

For 2024, the airport is expecting to see a 5% increase of passengers handled from 2023 to rise to 14.3 million.
