The aftermath of the bad weather in Dubai has been seen at the airport, with 61 diversions and 1,200+ flights cancelled this week.

It is understood that the region received more than a year’s worth of rain in just a single day.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

As revealed by Gulf News, the numbers surrounding the impact of the bad weather at Dubai has been revealed.

A spokesperson for DXB Airports said that a whopping 1,244 flights have been cancelled.

Furthermore, the poor weather caused a total of 61 diversions, which caused displacement of passengers.

The spokesperson said the following this week on the restart of operations:

“Check-in at Dubai International (DXB) has reopened for Emirates and flydubai flights operating out of Terminal 3, following the unprecedented weather experienced in the UAE”.

“We are working to process guests as quickly as possible and get everyone travelling to their destination,”

Disruption Will Last Weeks…

It looks like the disruption is due to continue at Dubai following the bad weather.

One passenger from the UK noted that he won’t be able to get back home until the 28th April.

It is unclear how long it will take to reset such disruption moving forward.

This is due to the fact that passengers who have booked onto other flights this week have caused tickets to sell out completely.

It isn’t just specific to Dubai, but to other regions in the Middle East that were subjected to the bad weather.

Overall…

Looking ahead, all eyes will be on how long the bad weather disruption will take to address at Dubai.

There will be thousands of passengers trying to get home as soon as possible, whilst dealing with tickets being sold out.

It is another example of how the infrastructure in the Middle East can’t cope with that amount of rain.

This is due to the fact that they rarely get enough rain to justify the need for drainage. Either way, it’s going to be interesting to watch the fallout from this.
