On October 31, Xiamen Airlines officially launched the Xiamen-Doha flight route. This not only established a new “air silk road” between these two world-renowned coastal cities, but also marked the first direct flight route to Doha from Fujian Province, China.

A Tale of Two Cities

Doha, the largest city in Qatar, serves as a multifaceted hub for finance, trade, conferences, exhibitions, and a pivotal transportation center bridging West Asia, Africa, and Europe.

In contrast, Xiamen stands as a vital regional aviation hub and global transit point on the southeast coast of China.

As the largest airline headquartered in Xiamen, Xiamen Airlines has progressively expanded its reach, launching routes from Xiamen to 21 international cities, including iconic destinations like Los Angeles, Paris, and Tokyo.

This expansion has resulted in the establishment of an extensive international flight network encompassing North America, Europe, Oceania, and Asia.

Furthermore, Xiamen Airlines proudly boasts a well-developed domestic flight network, servicing 52 domestic cities with a daily average of over 170 inbound and outbound flights.

Travel and Interline Agreements

The launch of the Xiamen-Doha flight route brings key accessibility benefits for passengers, eliminating the need for transit at major cities like Shanghai and Guangzhou.

The airline has also established comprehensive partnerships with Qatar Airways, creating a host of advantages for travelers. These include interline check-in, through-check baggage, and lounge access sharing in Doha.

The result is a versatile range of transit plans and “all-in-one” tickets for passengers who wish to explore more than 160 destinations worldwide, such as Dammam, Lagos, and Algiers.

The extensive network of flight routes and transit services provided by Xiamen Airlines efficiently facilitates travel from Europe, the United States, and Africa to major domestic cities, or vice versa, catering to the diverse needs of passengers.

Flight Schedule

There are two flights available every Tuesday and Friday between Xiamen and Doha. The flight to Doha departs from Xiamen at 00:05 (GMT+8) and arrives at 05:00 local time.

The return flight departs from Doha at 19:30 local time and arrives in Xiamen at 07:55 (GMT+8) the following morning.

Operated by Boeing 787 Dreamliner, this route offers a well-designed schedule that enables passengers to seamlessly arrange their subsequent itineraries.

The Belt and Road Initiative’s 10th Anniversary

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), a momentous initiative that has fostered connectivity and cooperation between countries.

Xiamen Airlines, in its commitment to this initiative, has launched and revitalized numerous international routes.

Following the commencement of the winter/spring season, Xiamen Airlines initiated operations on 51 international/regional routes with an impressive 584 flights per week, a remarkable achievement, equivalent to 92% of weekly flights prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among these routes, 24 cater to 14 overseas destinations across 10 countries along the Belt and Road route.

Boosting Bilateral Relations

The introduction of the Xiamen-Doha flight route complements the existing Beijing-Doha route, thereby fostering a more profound level of trade, cultural exchanges, and business and tourism cooperation between China and Qatar.

This connection holds the potential to drive economic growth, tourism, and cultural exchange while further strengthening the bonds between these two dynamic regions.
