Wizz Air, the major ultra-low-cost European airline, has announced the inauguration of a new route from London Luton Airport to Salzburg, Austria, to operate thrice weekly.

Commencing on February 8, 2024, the new route will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, with fares starting from £21.99. Tickets are available for purchase from the airline website and via the Wizz Air mobile app.

Salzburg – A rich history

The new destination in question, Salzburg, a city with a rich historical tapestry, offers travelers an array of architectural gems and scenic landscapes.

With meticulously preserved monuments, historic cathedrals, and vistas of the Eastern Alps, Salzburg stands as a contemplative destination, catering to those seeking both cultural enrichment and recreational pursuits, such as skiing.

Zsuzsa Trubek, Communications Manager at Wizz Air, remarked, “We are pleased to announce the new route from London Luton to Salzburg, providing travelers with an additional option for holiday travel and facilitating connections between families in the UK and Austria.”

Salzburg, with its timeless charm, invites discerning travelers for an immersive experience. Ms. Trubek further stated, “Salzburg is a beautiful city with a range of attractions for UK tourists to explore, making it an ideal destination for solo trips, family holidays, or travel with friends.”

Route competition

Wizzair will not be without competition on this route. Salzburg is a destination already well-served by UK airports. Easyjet, Ryanair, British Airways, Jet2, and TUI all serve the airport with departures across the UK, from airports such as London Gatwick, Manchester, and Birmingham.

Easyjet already has an established London Luton route and will be competing with Wizzair directly on this route.

As the skiing season kicks off, competition will definitely increase on the London to Salzburg route which will hopefully result in lower fares for passengers.

In addition to this, German flag carrier Lufthansa is joining the mix, announcing a 3 X weekly direct service to Salzburg from London Heathrow, commencing the 16th of December (Aeroroutes,2023). The carrier is expected to deploy its A320 Neos on the new route.

Summary

Aviation enthusiasts and those with a penchant for exploration are invited to embark on this journey, traversing from the dynamic urban landscape of London to the serene vistas of Salzburg.

With the assurance of cultural richness, adventure, and gastronomic experiences, Wizz Air’s new route encapsulates the ethos of contemporary air travel—an invitation to explore, learn, and create enduring memories in the skies.
