WestJet has announced a new, year-round daily service linking Regina and Minneapolis. This strategic addition to WestJet’s 2024 summer schedule marks Regina’s first year-round transborder service since 2016.
It also solidifies its status as the province’s second direct route to the Midwest United States.
A Boost for Regina
Regina’s air access is set to strengthen with WestJet’s latest route announcement. The new year-round transborder service to Minneapolis is a response to the community’s call for enhanced connectivity.
Jared Mikoch-Gerke, WestJet’s Director of Alliances & Airport Affairs, expressed the airline’s enthusiasm, stating, “We are thrilled to answer the call of the community and further our commitment to Regina and surrounding areas.”
This investment in Regina’s air infrastructure is not just about flights; it’s about fostering economic growth.
Mikoch-Gerke believes that the new route will “support the economic growth of the region and unlock business and leisure travel opportunities.”
As WestJet accelerates its efforts to provide affordable travel, Regina becomes a hub of possibilities for both business and leisure travelers.
Passengers flying beyond Minneapolis will benefit from WestJet’s partnership with Delta Air Lines.
The codeshare agreement opens up a vast network of over 70 connecting destinations, transforming Regina into a gateway to the United States.
Travelers can now reach their final destination with only one stop, simplifying the journey and maximizing convenience.
The partnership extends to WestJet Rewards, allowing guests to earn and redeem rewards seamlessly across both airlines.
Additionally, top-tier frequent flyer benefits are now accessible throughout the entire journey, enhancing the overall travel experience.
Government and Community Response
The new route has garnered praise from government officials and community leaders. Minister of Trade and Export Development Jeremy Harrison commended the Regina Airport Authority and WestJet, emphasizing the route’s impact on competitiveness, business support, and global connectivity for Saskatchewan.

He expressed the Authority’s ongoing commitment to this goal and celebrated WestJet’s delivery on this promise, anticipating millions in economic impact.
