WestJet has this week revealed the addition of three more Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft to it’s fleet.
It is understood these aircraft are under lease from BOC Aviation, and will be integrated into the fleet this year.

The Aircraft Started Life with Lynx Air…
Data from Planespotters.net shows that the three aircraft on lease from BOC Aviation started out life with Lynx Air.
Moreover, it is understood the following aircraft are:
- C-GFJO
- C-GFJQ
- C-GFVE
Furthermore, all three aircraft are currently parked at Tucson, Arizona at the time of publication and belonged to the defunct Canadian carrier.
Lynx Air ceased operations around three months ago due to “financial pressures, rising operating costs, high fuel prices, and increasing airport charges”.
It is understood WestJet took delivery of all three aircraft over the course of last month.
All Part of An Ambitious Growth Strategy…
Commenting on the acquisition of three Boeing 737 MAX 8s was Mike Scott, WestJet Group, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer:

Furthermore, adding to this was Steven Townend Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of BOC Aviation:
“We are delighted to support our long-term customer, WestJet, in its network growth”.
“Our provision of latest technology, fuel efficient aircraft will assist WestJet as it expands its business in the most cost-effective fashion.”
Overall…
Overall, what has been Lynx Air’s loss has been WestJet’s gain.
The acquisition of the three Boeing 737 MAX 8s will encourage capacity upgrades on their network.
Looking ahead, all eyes will be on when they are sent to Canada from Tucson.
But for now, let’s see what routes are added or upgraded as a result of this acquisition.
