Viva Aerobus, the ultra-low-cost Mexican airline, is taking a significant step towards improving its carbon footprint.

With a keen focus on optimizing fuel consumption, reducing operational costs, and minimizing CO2 emissions, Viva Aerobus has embraced the SkyBreathe® 360° eco-flying platform.

Viva Aerobus, boasting a fleet of 77 aircraft with plans for expansion, recognizes the need to leverage cutting-edge digital technologies to enhance its operations while simultaneously lessening its environmental impact.

To achieve this goal, the airline has partnered with OpenAirlines, a global leader in aviation fuel efficiency solutions.

SkyBreathe® 360°

The cornerstone of this transformation is the SkyBreathe® 360° platform, a technological marvel that harnesses the power of Big Data Algorithms, Artificial Intelligence, and Machine Learning.

This platform automatically scrutinizes vast troves of data from diverse sources, including comprehensive flight data records, operational flight plans, and ACARS data.

By integrating this wealth of information with real-time environmental data such as payload, weather conditions, and air traffic control constraints, SkyBreathe® identifies and proposes a range of fuel-saving opportunities.

The impact is tangible: Airlines that adopt SkyBreathe® can potentially reduce their overall fuel consumption by a remarkable 5%.

This new software empowers various stakeholders, including maintenance engineers, dispatchers, pilots, and fuel managers, to collaborate seamlessly in pursuit of greener and more efficient operations.

SkyBreathe® MyFuelCoach

In a bid to further enhance fuel efficiency, Viva Aerobus has taken the bold step of involving all its pilots through the implementation of SkyBreathe® MyFuelCoach.

This intuitive application provides individual pilots with real-time insights into their fuel usage. Armed with this data-driven knowledge, pilots can make informed decisions to curtail fuel consumption and reduce CO2 emissions during their flights.

Juan Carlos Zuazua, the CEO of Viva Aerobus, speaks of the transformative impact: “The SkyBreathe® software helps us improve our overall fuel management program.”

“Since the app’s opening to pilots, they are much more aware of their fuel performance and how they can improve, and we’ve already observed interesting progress.”

“We believe involving most of our teams will help us achieve significant fuel savings and lower our carbon footprint.”

“We’re confident that these tools will support our growth effectively while developing a stronger fuel-conscious culture across the airline. We all embrace the goal to reduce our carbon footprint.”

A Proactive Approach

Viva Aerobus’ partnership with OpenAirlines represents more than just a technological upgrade. It underscores the airline’s commitment to a sustainable future amidst the pressing climate challenges.

The approach encompasses several elements, including maintaining a high-performance fleet with modern aircraft, the and integration of advanced technological tools.
