United Airlines announced a strategic expansion of its global network, solidifying its position as a leader in international travel. This move offers increased connectivity and broader options for business and leisure travelers seeking to explore new horizons.

The expansion centers around three brand new non-stop routes, each catering to a distinct travel experience.

United is the only U.S. airline to offer non-stop flights to Marrakesh, Morocco and Cebu, Philippines and will fly non-stop to Medellin, Colombia for the first time in its history

The Marrakesh Express

New York/Newark-Marrakesh, Morocco

Firstly, United will become the first U.S. carrier offering direct flights to Marrakesh, Morocco, commencing in October.

This culturally rich destination will be accessible from Newark via a Boeing 767-300ER, featuring premium cabin options for enhanced comfort.

This addition complements United’s existing presence in Africa, further diversifying their African route network.

Firming the Phillipines

Tokyo/Narita-Cebu, Philippines

Secondly, United strengthens its foothold in the Philippines with a new year-round service from Tokyo-Narita to Cebu.

Launching in July, this route positions United as the sole U.S. carrier with direct flights to Cebu.

Passengers will benefit from convenient daily connections on 737-800 aircraft, seamlessly connecting with existing United flights from major U.S. hubs.

This move underscores United’s commitment to the Philippines, where they already offer daily service to Manila and additional flights from Guam and Palau.

Capitalizing on Colombia

Houston-Medellin, Colombia

Colombia welcomes a new route as well. United will inaugurate non-stop service from Houston to Medellin starting in October.

This strategic addition expands United’s presence in Colombia, complementing their existing services to Bogota.

With this expansion, United boasts a comprehensive network of 52 destinations served in Latin America from their Houston hub.

Asia

Beyond these exciting new routes, United is bolstering service to established travel hotspots. Notably, the airline is strategically rebuilding its presence in mainland China.

This includes the introduction of four weekly flights between Shanghai and Los Angeles on Boeing 787-9 aircraft, known for their superior passenger experience.

This frequency will increase to daily flights by late October, further strengthening United’s existing China network. This expansion is a direct result of a recent agreement between the U.S. and China to enhance flight options.

For travelers seeking bustling Asian metropolises, United is adding more flights to Hong Kong and Seoul.

A second daily Los Angeles-Hong Kong service will be launched in October, while San Francisco-Seoul will see a frequency increase to twice daily flights.

Additionally, United’s recent expansion of Tokyo service with a new route to Guam further bolsters their Asian network.

Europe

Looking towards Europe, United caters to the growing demand for Portugal by adding a second daily flight between New York/Newark and Porto.

This move solidifies United’s position as the leading carrier for flights to Portugal, offering more flights and being the only U.S. airline with direct service to Porto.

Summary

United Airlines’ strategic network expansion offers a wider array of travel options for business and leisure travelers alike.

With U.S. mainland hubs in Chicago, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, New York/Newark, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., United operates the most comprehensive global route network among North American carriers.

It is now the largest airline in the world as measured by available seat miles.

With a focus on diverse destinations, increased connectivity, and a commitment to a comfortable travel experience, United Airlines positions itself as a trusted partner for your next international adventure.
