Turkish Airlines has further expanded its North American presence, adding Detroit as the 13th US gateway destination.

As of November 15, 2023, the airline introduced its new flights to Detroit, marking the latest addition to its extensive network.

Detroit Joins the Network

Turkish Airlines, renowned for its vast reach, now operates flights to the Michigan city three days a week, linking Istanbul Airport with Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.

And that’s not all – starting from December 25, 2023, the frequency of these flights will increase to four days a week.

This strategic move elevates Turkish Airlines network to an impressive 345 destinations, with Detroit being the 13th US gateway destination.

Ceremonial Inaugural Flight

The inaugural flight on November 15 was welcomed with enthusiasm, featuring the ceremonial water cannon salute on arrival.

The event, hosted at the Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, attracted a distinguished gathering, including local officials, Turkish Airlines executives, and aviation enthusiasts.

Turkish Airlines Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee, Prof. Dr. Ahmet Bolat, spoke on the new route service at the ceremony.

“As we celebrate the inaugural flight of Turkish Airlines to Detroit, today holds special significance. We have bridged the gap between two remarkable cities, Istanbul and Detroit, by initiating this direct flight.”

“The connection we establish between Istanbul and Detroit opens up avenues for travel, business, and cultural exploration. As the national flag carrier of Türkiye, our mission is to unite people and cultures globally.”

“By continually expanding our network to new destinations like Detroit, we reaffirm our commitment to this mission,” concluded Prof. Ahmet Bolat.

Detroit: More Than Just “Motor City”

Situated in the state of Michigan, Detroit is the tenth largest city in the U.S., renowned as the heart of the automotive industry.

Commonly referred to as “Motor City,” the city boasts a rich cultural heritage and is a hub of musical history. Beyond its industrial prowess, the city stands as a testament to resilience, reinvention, and creativity.

With the introduction of the new flights, Turkish Airlines not only enhances its global reach but also facilitates seamless travel, business, and cultural exchange between Istanbul and Detroit.

Passengers now have the opportunity to explore the vibrant automotive culture, delve into the music scene, and experience the unique blend of history and modernity that defines the US city.
