Rolls-Royce (LSE: RR) has announced that Turkish Airlines will order 100 Trent XWB-84 engines and 40 Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines.
This news follows the recent bulk order placed by the Turkish flag carrier for 220 Airbus aircraft. This order included 70 of the A350 widebody aircraft (50 A350-900s, 15 A350-1000s and 5 A350F freighters).
With the XWB variants set as the A350 powerplant, this engine order effectively makes Turkish Airlines the world’s largest operator of Trent XWB engines.
A Triumph for Turkish Airlines
Turkish Airlines, known for its expansive network spanning more than 340 destinations across Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, has experienced remarkable growth.
From a modest 10 million passengers in 2003, the airline’s numbers have skyrocketed to over 82 million in the past twelve months.

The Trent XWB Engine
The Trent XWB-84, responsible for powering A350-900s, and the Trent XWB-97, propelling A350-1000s and A350F, are slated for delivery between 2025 and 2033.
These advanced engines will join Turkish Airlines’ existing fleet, which already boasts 40 Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-84 A350-900s and 26 Trent 700 powered A330s.

Ahmet Bolat, Chairman of the Board and the Executive Committee at Turkish Airlines, views this order as more than an expansion; it’s a testament to their dedication to innovation, operational excellence, and a sustainable future.
“The addition of these advanced powered Airbus aircraft to our fleet will not only enhance our operational capabilities but also significantly contribute to our environmental goals,” he said.
