Earlier this week saw the Netherlands side of the TUI Airlines business sign a long-term lease agreement with Global Crossing Airlines for two Airbus A320 aircraft.
The two Airbus A320 aircraft will operate in July and August 2023, as well as in Summer programs for 2024 and 2025, and will be based in Amsterdam.
Under the GlobalX name, a subsidiary of Global Crossing Airlines, this means that daily flights will be provided throughout Europe.
Commenting on the agreement was Ed Wegel, the Chair & CEO of GlobalX:
“We are honored to fly for TUI, one of the great airlines of Europe, over the next three (3) summer seasons.”
“We greatly appreciate their confidence in us to be able to fly their valued customers to their summer vacations”.
Also commenting was Roel Martens, the Head of Aviation Leases at TUI:
“Each year TUI and its airlines require extra aircraft capacity to match the high season demand in our European markets.”
“GlobalX offers a perfect match, and we are happy to work with them to fly our guests into their holidays,”
TUI Airlines Netherlands Begins Growth in Summer 2023…
Data from RadarBox.com shows that TUI Airlines Netherlands is about to begin its growth as the Summer 2023 season begins.
From April 2-9, the carrier handled 27 movements, which represents an increase of 17.39% compared to the same period last year.
With this being the earliest period of the season so far, it highlights already the growth rate that it could achieve over the Summer.
Based on that, and the fact that the GlobalX aircraft will be with TUI Airlines Netherlands in July & August, below is the forecasted averages of weekly flights that are expected to take place:
|Date||2022 Numbers||Expected 2023 Numbers (With a 17.39% increase average)|
|June 25-July 2||47 movements||55 movements|
|July 2-July 9||58 movements||68 movements|
|July 9-16||56 movements||65 movements|
|July 16-23||58 movements||68 movements|
|July 23-30||59 movements||69 movements|
|July 30-August 6||58 movements||68 movements|
|August 6-13||57 movements||67 movements|
|August 13-20||58 movements||68 movements|
|August 20-27||58 movements||68 movements|
|August 27-September 3||52 movements||61 movements|
This means that over the July-August period when the aircraft will be in use, this will allow an increase of 96 weekly flights, which will offer a further revenue stream moving forward.
It remains clear that this agreement will benefit both TUI Airlines Netherlands and also GlobalX/Global Crossing Airlines.
For the lessor, it will mean more revenue secured during the Summer of 2023, and for the airline, it will mean more flights served and more revenue as well.
Looking ahead, all eyes will be on TUI Airlines Netherlands to see how the Summer 2023 season will go for them and whether there is any scope for an expansion of the deal.
But for now, this is a deal that both sides can walk away from feeling satisfied that maximum catchment and capacity can be produced.
