In preparation for busy periods of the year, airlines sometimes wet-lease to cater to additional demand.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

In a statement, Alliance Airlines said the following on the decision from Qantas:

“Alliance today announces it has received a request from Qantas Airways Limited (“Qantas”) to bring forward the entry into service dates for wet lease options 23 to 26, as announced to the market on 19 October 2023, bringing forward the available date for each aircraft by several weeks.

“These four additional committed aircraft will progressively enter service with Qantas through to June 2024 bringing the total aircraft in service to 26.”

Furthermore, June 2024 is when the Summer season will get into high gear for the Australian carrier.

Alliance Airlines has said in the statement also that Qantas can exercise options to wet-lease four more aircraft on top.

It is unclear at this stage whether the Australian carrier will do that, but to bring four aircraft forward suggests this.

The airline has no doubt experienced a surge in bookings on regional routes where the Alliance Embraer E190s operate.

Furthermore, this will be something to look out for as we get closer to the start of the Summer 2024 period.

Overall…

It remains clear that Qantas is experiencing high demand on it’s regional routes.

Airlines like Alliance will be on hand to provide aircraft in these busier months, with June looking to be the date for this to ramp up.

All eyes will be on whether the Australian carrier will exercise additional wet-leasing options ahead of this period.

But for now, let’s wait to see what happens as we approach the March area where the busy period begins.
