Swiss International Airlines, better known as SWISS, has announced a handful of new routes for its Summer 2024 schedule.

The new destinations cover both their long and short haul network, showing the airline’s constant assessment of the market as well as improving its connection with other Star Alliance carriers.

SWISS network expansion

On the long haul side of the announcement, Washington Dulles (IAD) and Toronto Pearson (YYZ) will be added to the map.

On the short haul side Kosice (KSC) in Slovakia and Cluj Napoca (CLJ) will be added to SWISS’ ever expanding European network.

Chief Commercial Officer for SWISS, Tamur Goudarzi Pour, praised the new routes in a press release saying, “In the wake of the pandemic, it has now become clearer than ever that travel is a deeply-rooted human need, especially among the younger generations.”

He added, “The demand for travel continues to steadily rise, and the loadings of our flights are now higher than they have ever been before. As the airline of Switzerland, we connect our home country with the world; and, in doing so, we offer our customers a quality range of premium air services.”

“We are delighted that we will be further expanding our route network next summer on both the short and the long haul front. And as we do so, we will continue to pursue the kind of balanced growth that pays due and full regard to our customers, to society and to environmental considerations and concerns”.

The long haul services

Looking at the long haul routes to Washington and Toronto, we find the details to be as follows.

Flights will begin for Washington on the 28th March 2024 and leave Zurich at 12:55pm, landing in Dulles for 16:15pm (all times local).

For the return leg, a typical overnight flight can be expected leaving Dulles at 20:45pm local and arriving back in Zurich by 10:50am local the following day. Flights will be operated by Airbus A330-300 aircraft of which SWISS has 14 in its fleet.

Moving to Toronto, flights to Canada’s largest city will begin later than Washington, on the 10th May 2024. Here the flights will leave Zurich at 9:55am and arrive in Toronto by 13:00pm local.

As for the eastbound service, this will leave Toronto at 16:35pm and arrive back in Zurich for 6:30am the following day. Once again, Airbus A330-300 aircraft will be used on this route.

First we have Kosice, which will run 3 times a week, however a specific start date has not been disclosed as of yet.

What we also know is flights will be operated using the highly efficient and modern Airbus A220 aircraft.

Lastly there is Cluj Napoca, which will also run 3 times a week, but once again a start date has not been released as of yet. In addition, the route will also be operated by SWISS’ Airbus A220 aircraft.

As part of their press release, SWISS has said the Summer 2024 season will run from the 31st March to the 26th October, which may suggest when the new European routes will run, however we will have to wait until flights go on sale.
