STARLUX announces the launch of a third Philippines route

Taiwan premium carrier STARLUX Airlines has announced the launch of a third Philippines route between Taipei and Clark, to start in August 2023.

Gateway to the Northern Philippines


The Taiwan-based carrier, STARLUX Airlines, has announced it is adding a third route between its home base of Taipei and the Philippines.

The airline will launch daily flights between Taipei and Clark, Philippines, starting on 15 August 2023. In the announcement, the airline has promoted the potential for tourists from North America to visit Northern Philippines from Los Angeles via its Taiwan hub.

Glenn Chia, the CEO of STARLUX, said, “We believe Clark will be an important route to increase our competitiveness in the North American transit market by making it easy for passengers heading to Clark or other destinations in the northern Philippines for business or pleasure.”

Clark serves as an important and popular tourist gateway destination in the Philippines. Last year, figures used by the airline provided by Statistica showed that tourists from the United States of America were the largest market visiting the Philippines.

Filipinos make up the third largest Asian group in the USA according to the US Census. As a the former largest American military base in Asia, Clark is now a focus as an economic centre and tourist destination, with strong ties to the USA.

The city, and local area, has seen significant growth and development due to this, with the airline hoping to capitalise on this new connection.

Taipei also received over 1 million travellers from Los Angeles in 2019, making it its 14th most popular route. Taipei to Manila, Philippines saw over 1.6 million and Clark saw over 62,000 in the same year. STARLUX also flies to both Manila and Cebu in the Philippines.

Taiwanese Premium Flying


In addition to offering greater convenience to those heading to the northern Philippines, STARLUX’s premium inflight service will attract more travelers seeking luxury and comfort. Clark is a destination that appeals to both business and leisure travelers.

To attract the mix of both business and leisure travellers, the airline is offering both “premium inflight service” and “greater convenience” for travellers who wish to seek luxury and confort. The airline competes with China Airlines and EVA Air on routes between Taipei and Los Angeles.

The flights between Taipei and Clark will be operated by the carrier’s Airbus A321 neo fleet. It has a two-class cabin configuration, with eight seats in Business Class and 180 in Economy Class.

The carrier has a fleet of all Airbus types, with 13 of the A321 neo type and four A330 neos and three A350s. The the fourth A350 is expected to be delivered by the end of 2023.

STARLUX also announced plans to launch a non-stop service to San Francisco from its hub in Taiwan by the end of 2023, adding a further North American destination to its Asian network.
