Star Alliance: World’s Best Airline Alliance

This week at the Skytrax awards, Star Alliance, has been named as the world’s best airline alliance for 2024.

This article will cover the details surrounding Star Alliance being named as the world’s best airline alliance during this years Skytrax award ceremony.

Star Alliance – World’s Best Alliance

At this year’s Skytrax Award Ceremony in London, United Kingdom, Star Alliance won the title of the world’s best airline alliance.

In addition to this accolade, the group’s newly launched Paris Charles de Gaulle airport lounge also received the World’s Best Airline Alliance Lounge award in its first year.

The group’s Chief Executive Officer, Theo Panagiotoulias, received the awards at the ceremony which was held at Fairmont Windsor Park, in the United Kingdom.

The alliance consists of the following 26 members –

  • Aegean Airlines who joined in 2010.
  • Air Canada, a founding airline.
  • Air China who joined in 2007.
  • Air India who joined in 2014.
  • Air New Zealand who joined in 1999.
  • All Nippon Airways (ANA) who joined in 1999.
  • Asiana Airlines who joined in 2003.
  • Austrian Airlines who joined in 2000.
  • Avianca who joined in 2012.
  • Brussels Airlines who joined in 2009.
  • Copa Airlines who joined in 2012.
  • Croatia Airlines who joined in 2004.
  • EgyptAir who joined in 2008.
  • Ethiopian Airlines who joined in 2011.
  • EVA Air who joined in 2013.
  • LOT Polish Airlines who joined in 2003.
  • Lufthansa, a founding airline.
  • Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) who was a founding airlines but is leaving the alliance on August 31, 2024 to join Skyteam.
  • Shenzhen Airlines who joined in 2012.
  • Singapore Airlines who joined in 2000.
  • South African Airways who joined in 2006.
  • Swiss International Air Lines who joined in 2006.
  • TAP Air Portugal who joined in 2005.
  • Thai Airways International, a founding airline.
  • Turkish Airlines who joined in 2008.
  • United Airlines, a founding airline.

Firstly, commenting on their awards at the ceremony, Theo Panagiotoulias, says, “We are humbled to learn that millions of customers voted and made us the best yet again. Not only does this acknowledge the effort we dedicate to making customer journeys seamless, but it also motivates us further to achieve more.”

Secondly, adding to Panagiotoulias’ comments, Skytrax’s Chief Executive Officer, Edward Plaisted, says, “We congratulate Star Alliance on a fabulous double achievement at this year’s awards, winning the World’s Best Airline Alliance and the World’s Best Airline Alliance Lounge categories.”
