Singapore-based MRO services provider ST Engineering has secured a firm contract with the Lion Air group of airlines.

The company’s Commercial Aerospace division has inked a five-year contract to provide Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) solutions for Lion Air Group’s fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

This collaboration effectlively positions Lion Air Group as the launch customer for ST Engineering’s LEAP-1B MRO services.

Notably, ST Engineering was included in CFM International’s CFM Branded Service Agreement (CBSA) LEAP MRO network earlier this year, solidifying its standing as a trusted MRO provider in the industry.

A Pioneering Partnership

Under the terms of this multi-year agreement, ST Engineering assumes the exclusive responsibility of supporting the MRO requirements for all 36 LEAP-1B engines that power Lion Air Group’s existing Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

These aircraft are currently in operation across its various carriers, including Lion Air, Batik Air, Batik Air Malaysia, and Thai Lion.

This agreement is a new addition to the pre-existing and long-standing MRO support partnership that ST Engineering has with the airline Group for CFM56-5B/7B engines.

“Our latest collaboration with Lion Air Group signifies a major achievement for us as we expand our portfolio to include cutting-edge engine MRO solutions for airline operators transitioning to new-generation aircraft.”

“The increased number of engines entrusted to our care by Lion Air Group also underscores our ongoing commitment to their growth plans – a dedication we uphold with all of our long-term customers.”

Pak Dennis Kirana, Assistant Director of PT Batam Aero Technic, the MRO subsidiary of the Lion Air Group, also shared his thoughts on this collaboration, saying,

“ST Engineering and Lion Air Group have always maintained a strong relationship, and we aim to nurture this relationship further in the future. With that said, we are delighted to have ST Engineering as one of the key partners for our future generation of engines.”

ST Engineering’s LEAP MRO Solutions

As the first independent MRO provider in Asia to join CFM International’s authorized LEAP MRO network, ST Engineering is well-positioned to offer a wide range of solutions for LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines used in new-generation aircraft, including the Airbus A320neo and Boeing 737 MAX.

The company’s comprehensive solutions for LEAP engines encompass engine overhaul, cutting-edge proprietary parts repair technology, engine pooling, and leasing services.

Currently, ST Engineering provides rapid-turnaround services for LEAP engines at its state-of-the-art facility in Singapore.

The company has ambitious plans to achieve test capability for the LEAP-1B and -1A engines by late 2023 and early 2024, respectively.

Moreover, ST Engineering is on track to establish a full-fledged performance restoration shop visit capability for both engines by early 2025.
