Spirit Airlines will open the new crew base at Newark Liberty International Airport in September 2024.

It is understood up to 200 pilots will be based there initially, with additional supervisors and other functions to follow thereafter.

Furthermore, this comes following the news of the airline becoming the second largest at the airport.

Around 32 peak departures occur daily from Newark, with Spirit Airlines servicing 22 destinations.

Eight years since they launched operations from the airport, the growth plan is very clear here.

Commenting on this strong milestone for it’s Newark operations was John Bendoraitis, Spirit’s Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer:

“We’re continuously focused on running a strong, reliable operation, and our growth at EWR paired with the airport’s location in the nation’s largest metropolitan area make Newark ideal for our next Pilot crew base”.

“Spirit has a long history of serving New Jersey travelers, and this investment reflects our commitment to our Guests and Team Members in the Garden State.”

“We thank the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, Newark Liberty International Airport and our community partners for their continued support.”

Overall, this is strong news for Spirit Airlines as the Newark Liberty International Airport operation is working.

All eyes will of course be on when the crew base opens in September 2024.

There could be potential scope for new routes to be added to the New Jersey-based airport.

But for now, let’s see where they go with this operation throughout the rest of this year.
