U.S. ultra-low-cost carrier Spirit Airlines has announced that it has taken its 200th aircraft delivery from European manufacturer Airbus as the two companies mark a historic moment in their long relationship.

The 200 Club

Spirit Airlines is one of the largest Airbus airline fleets in the world, with it now operating an active fleet of 188 A319, A320 and A321 aircraft.

In 2022 the carrier added 14 new A320neos into service with an additional 26 due in 2023, with the carrier’s first A321neo expected this year.

Spirit Airlines President and CEO Ted Christie commented on the delivery saying: “Our new, fuel-efficient aircraft allow us to deliver on our promise to give our Guests both an affordable and great experience,”

“Spirit’s Pilots truly enjoy flying our modern aircraft fleet, and we’d like to thank Airbus for their long-term partnership. I’d also like to recognize all our Spirit Family Members and business partners who prepare our planes for service and keep them in tip-top shape with safety as their top priority.”

With the addition of the new 26 aircraft this year, it will also see the ale of all 26 of the airlines’ A319s despite the carrier’s recent expenditure of upgrading them all. It will further reduce the airline’s average fleet age down to around 5 years old, making it one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the world.

C. Jeffrey Knittel, President and CEO of Airbus Americas, Inc said: “The 200th aircraft delivery from Airbus to Spirit Airlines is not only a major milestone, but also reflects the trust they have in our products that provide the best passenger experience their customers demand combined with the cost and environmentally efficient operations the airline needs,”

“Spirit has one of the youngest and most fuel-efficient fleets in the U.S. thanks to the benefits offered by our A320 Family of aircraft.”

New Summer Routes From Boston

In addition to the announcement of receiving its 200th Airbus, Spirit also announced they would be adding an additional 5 daily services from Boston this summer with the new services being offered permanently year-round.

“We trust Bostonians will appreciate the great value and convenience we provide our Guests at such affordable prices,”

The new routes continue to see Spirit Airlines push forward with its planned expansions and offer more competition to the other carriers operating out of Boston.
