Indian low-cost carrier SpiceJet has announced plans to induct 10 new Boeing 737 aircraft from September 2023. The airline has signed a lease agreement for 10 Boeing 737 aircraft, which is reported to include five 737 MAX aircraft.

The new aircraft will be used to expand SpiceJet’s network and to replace older aircraft in the fleet. The airline plans to use the new aircraft to launch new routes and to increase frequencies on existing routes.

According to the Times of India, Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, SpiceJet said: “There has been a significant surge in passenger demand and we are hopeful that this trend of increased demand will continue in the latter part of the year as well.”

“Accordingly, SpiceJet has been planning capacity addition to cater to the growing needs of the Indian aviation market. We will be inducting ten B737 aircraft between September-October 2023.”

“The induction of these planes, which coincides with the peak travel season in India, will help us launch new routes and strengthen our presence on existing ones.”

Current operational issues

SpiceJet is currently battling to return its grounded aircraft to operational service. The carrier saw the majority of its fleet grounded due to continuing issues with supplying spare parts and components for the normal maintenance cycle.

The large-scale grounding has caused delays at several Indian airports including Pune.

The induction of the new aircraft comes as a positive development for SpiceJet and also for the Indian aviation industry. The new aircraft will help SpiceJet to improve its operational efficiency and to offer its passengers a better travel experience.

New aircraft delivery

The new aircraft will be delivered to SpiceJet in batches, with the first aircraft expected to arrive in September 2023.

The induction of the new aircraft is a welcome development for SpiceJet passengers. The new aircraft will offer a number of benefits, including:

More seats: The new aircraft have a higher capacity than older aircraft, which means that there will be more seats available for passengers.

Longer range: The new aircraft have a longer range than older aircraft, which means that SpiceJet will be able to offer new routes that were previously not possible.

More fuel-efficient: The new aircraft are more fuel-efficient than older aircraft, which means that SpiceJet will be able to offer lower fares to passengers.

Overall, the induction of the new aircraft is a positive development for SpiceJet and for the Indian aviation industry. The new aircraft will help SpiceJet to improve its operational efficiency and to offer its passengers a better travel experience.

In addition to the new aircraft, SpiceJet is also investing in other areas of its business, such as its in-flight service and its ground handling operations. The airline is also planning to expand its network to include more destinations in India and abroad.

SpiceJet’s plans to invest in its business are a sign of confidence in the future of the Indian aviation industry. If the airline is able to move past its current crisis with fleet groundings, it is well-positioned to take advantage of the growth in air travel in India, and it is expected to continue to grow in the years to come.
