Avia Solutions Group (ASG), the world’s largest ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance, and Insurance) provider, has finalized the acquisition of Australian airline Skytrans.

This strategic move strengthens ASG’s foothold in the Asia-Pacific region and unlocks new growth opportunities.

Expanding Reach and Market Access

Skytrans, boasting a fleet of 13 regional aircraft, specializes in both Regular Public Transport (RPT) and charter operations.

The acquisition grants ASG a crucial Australian Air Operator Certificate (AOC), enabling them to conduct both passenger and cargo flights within the country.

This expansion aligns perfectly with ASG’s ambitious growth strategy. The Australian domestic aviation market, predicted to surpass pre-pandemic levels in 2024, presents a lucrative opportunity.

Additionally, the acquisition allows ASG to leverage counter-seasonal demand, mitigating the impact of seasonal fluctuations in Europe by strategically deploying aircraft across regions.

Regional Presence and Future Plans

With Skytrans, ASG now holds a total of 12 Air Operator Certificates globally. Jonas Janukenas, CEO of Avia Solutions Group, emphasizes the strategic significance of the acquisition:

“This acquisition aligns with our broader strategy to mitigate seasonality and access emerging markets in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. We aim to establish or acquire seven additional airlines by year-end, focusing on countries like Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia.”

Skytrans’ Future under ASG

Skytrans Airlines is an Australian regional airline operating regular public transport (RPT) and charter services.

The airline was founded in 1990 and has a long history of serving regional communities in Queensland. It primarily connects Cairns to destinations in Cape York and the Torres Strait.

While Skytrans will continue its current operations, the focus will shift towards expanding ACMI and wet-lease operations, according to the newly appointed Managing Director, Gytis Gumuliauskas:

“Passenger operations will remain our core focus, but we’re excited to explore and develop cargo transportation in 2024 and beyond.”

“To achieve this, we plan to expand the fleet with A319 aircraft for passenger and A321F for cargo operations.”

Avia Solutions Group: Global Aviation Powerhouse

Headquartered in Ireland, ASG is a leading player in the global aviation industry. It encompasses various entities like SmartLynx Airlines, Avion Express, AirExplore, KlasJet, and Magma Aviation, operating worldwide.

Furthermore, the group boasts FL Technics, a prominent global provider of MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul) services, with an extensive network of line maintenance stations and maintenance hangars strategically located.

ASG also operates BAA Training, the largest independent pilot training organization with schools across several countries.

This strategic acquisition by Avia Solutions Group strengthens its position as a dominant force in the global aviation landscape, solidifying its presence in the Asia-Pacific region and opening doors for further expansion and growth.
