The New Terminal One at New York JFK is scheduled to open in 2026, with SAS wanting to take advantage of that.

They will become the eighth airline to commit to operating out of the new facility, with the others being:

  • EVA Air
  • Air Serbia
  • Air China
  • Air France
  • Etihad Airways
  • LOT Polish Airlines
  • Korean Air

Such developments are part of the $19bn allocated by the airport in terms of upgrading infrastructure.

SAS currently operates flights to New York JFK from the following hubs:

  • Stockholm
  • Copenhagen
  • Oslo

Furthermore, they launched services to the airport back in February 2023, and operate twice-daily from Copenhagen with their Airbus A321neoLR.

Jennifer Aument, Chief Executive Officer of The New Terminal One had this to say on the news:

“We are delighted that SAS has chosen The New Terminal One to take their New York JFK service to the next level.”

“Our state-of-the-art terminal will offer international guests an exceptional experience when visiting the iconic city of New York and we look forward to working with the team at SAS to redefine their guests’ journey to our global gateway”.

The first phase of the terminal will have the headhouse and 14 gates to begin with.

Upon the official completion in the program, which will be in 2030, it will become the largest terminal at JFK.

In conclusion, this is good news once again for The New Terminal One at New York JFK.

With SAS already operating out of the existing T1, this new development is something the airline wants to take advantage of.

It will be interesting to see which other airlines will commit to operating out of the new facility when phase one opens up in 2026.

But for now, all eyes will be on 2026 to see how the opening of the terminal goes and what the feedback from customers will be.
