Royal Air Maroc has now put out the feelers via a Request for Proposals (RFP) to make a 200-strong aircraft order.

The Moroccan carrier becomes the latest to show interest in buying new aircraft for future growth.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

Reuters reported today that the tender by Royal Air Maroc was launched on April 15.

As per ch-aviation, it is understood that all four manufacturers, being Boeing, Embraer, ATR & Airbus, are able to provide their own proposals.

It is understood that Royal Air Maroc is looking for a mix of firm orders with options, as well as outright takeovers and dry leases.

Furthermore, such an order would facilitate both fleet expansion and renewal.

In the Royal Air Maroc Group, this is what their fleet looks like, courtesy of Planespotters.net:

  • 6 ATR 72s.
  • 30 Boeing 737 Family aircraft.
  • 1 Boeing 767.
  • 9 Boeing 787s.
  • 4 Embraer E190s.

Therefore, opening up the proposals to all four manufacturers comes as no surprise, given their fleet setup already.

Preparing for Tourism Boom…

The reason for this potential order by Royal Air Maroc is very simple: A tourism boom expected.

Whenever the order is made, the expectation is that deliveries would take place and accelerate after 2028.

This is because in 2030, the FIFA World Cup will be in effect, with Morocco being one of the host countries for the event.

They join Spain and Portugal for the historic football event, which means traffic and tourism will explode with demand.

Furthermore, it is events like this that put countries on the map for future travel after an event.

Overall…

In conclusion, it will be interesting to see what sort of order Royal Air Maroc will make.

With a mixed fleet already, could we see a multi-manufacturer order come from the Moroccan carrier?

This does come at a time when the Farnborough Air Show is coming up in July, and is a good opportunity for manufacturers to showcase such orders.

Although unclear whether this will happen at FIA, all eyes will be on the order overall.
