On September 1, Qatar Airways Cargo resumed services to Bahrain, which increases its weekly cargo capacity to and from the Middle East to over 4,500 tonnes.

The three-weekly dedicated freighter flights will join the already existing 21-weekly passenger services, which will add more than 200 tonnes of weekly cargo capacity to and from the airport.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

Commenting on the route restart to Bahrain was Liesbeth Outkerk, the SVP of Cargo Sales and Network Planning at Qatar Airways:

“We are glad to be back in Bahrain with dedicated freighters three times a week.”

“Bahrain is an important market for us, and having a consistent freighter service will contribute to the economic and trade growth between Qatar and Bahrain.”

It is understood that the sort of cargo that will be transported to the region will be general cargo and perishables such as fruits, vegetables and meat.

On the exports front, this will be general cargo also as well as dangerous goods.

With these services in mind, it means that Bahrain will be served 24 times per week by Qatar Airways. Now that the dedicated freighter services are back, this will produce more input and output for the airport.

Looking ahead, all eyes will be on both parties to see how these new dedicated freighter services perform and whether there is any scope to expand this further.

It’s clear that in this particular market, it is all to play for.
