Canada’s leading regional airline Porter Airlines has selected Viasat to provide world-class inflight connectivity on the carrier’s Embraer E195-E2 aircraft.

Viasat, one of the pioneers and the global leaders in satellite communications, confirmed that their in-flight connectivity and wireless In-Flight Entertainment (IFE) systems will be factory installed on an additional 20 new Embraer E195-E2 aircraft on their way to Porter Airlines.

Porter Airlines is expected to receive its new aircraft next year. With Viasat’s innovation in Porter Airlines, we can comfortably say it is Canada’s only airline to offer free, fast in-flight Wi-Fi across its entire Embraer E195-E2 fleet.

Ka-Band Satellite Technology

The Ka-Band satellite technology drives Viasat for its excellent utilization of bandwidth,  connected with Porter’s guests on the Embraer E195-E2 jets, they are able to stream their favorite video or music and browse websites. Business travelers can also open and write emails and browse productivity apps.

These could be done all on their own personal devices! Moreover, Porter also highlights streaming entertainment including popular soap TV series and movies.

Porter Airline’s Wi-Fi availability will be available as a ‘gate to gate’ service.

Increased Competitiveness

Porter Airline’s development of its in-flight connectivity service comes amid expansion efforts within Canada and the ongoing efforts to build an extensive North American network and certain routes to the southern and western United States.

Kevin Jackson, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, said: “It’s clear that our passengers value the high-speed and high-quality Wi-Fi on our E195-E2 fleet, which allows them to stay entertained or connected to work while in the air,”

He furthered: “Our commitment to making the Wi-Fi fast and free has helped build on our award-winning approach to hospitality as we continue to expand across North America.”

“As Porter Airlines brings on additional new E195-E2 aircraft to its existing fleet, and expands its route network, we look forward to supporting its vision for best-in-class in-flight entertainment and connectivity.”

The Canadian regional carrier initially inked a contract with Viasat to install their technology for 30 E195-E2 aircraft. Most of these aircraft are now equipped and operating today.
