Porter Airlines has launched its daily roundtrip service between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

The inaugural flight took place this week, with January 16 seeing the latest connection between the two top North American cultural centers.

Embraer E195-E2 Aircraft

Operating aboard the state-of-the-art Embraer E195-E2 aircraft, this route introduces a 132-seat, all-economy configuration with a comfortable two-by-two layout.

A standout feature for the Canadian carrier has always been the absence of middle seats for any passenger, ensuring a more spacious and enjoyable inflight experience.

The E195-E2 is also the most environmentally-friendly single-aisle aircraft available. Boasting a 65% reduction in noise and up to 25% more fuel efficiency than its predecessors, it sets a new standard for eco-conscious air travel.

Its impressive record includes the lowest fuel consumption per seat and per trip among 120- to 150-seat aircraft, making it the quietest single-aisle jet in the skies today.

Porter’s In-flight Amenities

Porter Airlines goes beyond expectations when it comes to in-flight services. Passengers are treated to complimentary beer, wine, and premium snacks, complemented by free, fast WiFi.

The icing on the cake is the PorterReserve fare tier, which offers priority check-in, extra legroom seats, premium pre-mixed cocktails, and fresh, healthy meals.

A further bous is that even passengers opting for PorterClassic fares can make avail of these services à la carte.

Connections through Alaska Airlines’ Partnership

Porter’s recently-announced partnership with Alaska Airlines opens up new horizons for travelers.

This collaboration not only enhances Porter’s presence across Eastern Canada but also provides additional options for passengers connecting through LAX.

The codeshare allows access to 11 of Alaska’s well-established U.S. West Coast links, including Portland, San Diego, Seattle, and Phoenix.

Stakeholder Comments

Kevin Jackson, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer, Porter Airlines says:”The level of service that Porter provides is something that no other airline offers for economy passengers on this route.”

“Our focus on delivering an elevated economy experience allows passengers to receive celebrity treatment before immersing themselves in the rich cultural scenes of Toronto and Los Angeles.”

Zaib Shaikh, Consul General of Canada in Los Angeles speaks of the business and cultural aspects of the new service:

“The new direct daily Porter route linking Los Angeles and Toronto will support new business partnerships and help deepen the already extensive people-to-people connections between Canada and Southern California.”

Michael R. Christensen, Chief Operations and Maintenance Officer, Los Angeles World Airports adds further comment on the new connection: “We are excited to welcome Porter Airlines and its efficient Embraer E195-E2 jet to Los Angeles International Airport.”

“This new flight and partnership will not only strengthen the existing ties between greater Toronto and Southern California but will provide travelers with another option to experience each region’s renowned business and tourism offerings.”

Travel Demand on the Rise

Kurush Minocher, Executive Director of Customer Experience and Airline Relations at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority concludes:

“Los Angeles was the fourth busiest transborder destination out of Toronto Pearson in 2023. We see that demand for travel between the two cities remains high, which makes Porter’s entry on the route exciting for the airport and for passengers,”
