New Delhi: 17 Milestones on IndiGo’s 17th Anniversary

Earlier this month, New Delhi-based IndiGo celebrated its 17th birthday. To celebrate this, the airline highlighted 17 milestones that have taken place in its history.

Commenting on its 17th birthday was CEO Pieter Elbers:

Via its press release, the New Delhi-based carrier unveiled the following 17 milestones that have taken place over the last 17 years:

  • IndiGo’s inaugural flight operated from Delhi to Guwahati, creating a new milestone in domestic
    connectivity August 4, 2006
  • IndiGo introduced the pioneering concept of using ramps for boarding and deboarding in August
    4, 2006, enhancing passenger convenience and safety
  • The 17th domestic destination, Ahmedabad, was added to IndiGo’s expanding network on January
    29, 2008, opening up new travel opportunities
  • IndiGo reached a major milestone by launching its first international flight to the dazzling city of
    Dubai on September 1, 2011
  • In August 2015, the airline introduced the groundbreaking Electronic Flight Bag (EFB), becoming
    the first in the region to embrace digital solutions for operational efficiency
  • IndiGo embraced the cutting-edge A320neo aircraft, with registration VT-ITC (MSN 6799), on March

    2017, solidifying its regional presence
  • IndiGo achieved the historic milestone of becoming the first Indian carrier to operate 1000 flights

  • IndiGo set a new record with the maximum number of 3 lac customers per day in May 2023
  • The airline’s ambitious order book made history on June 19, 2023, with the largest order in aviation
    history of 500 A320 aircraft, bringing the order book close to 1.000 aircraft and solidifying its
    position as the airline with the biggest order in the industry

From starting out in New Delhi to now operating over 1,900 flights per day, IndiGo has a lot to celebrate this month.
