Canadian ultra-low-cost carrier Lynx Air has inaugurated its first flight route between Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) and Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX).

This new service marks another milestone in the airline’s rapid expansion of its Toronto network.

Lynx Air originally entered the aviation scene in 2022 with a basic vision – to inspire more Canadians to take to the skies by offering a fantastic flying experience at an ultra-affordable price.

The airline’s stated mission is to break the barriers of high airfares and make air travel accessible to a broader spectrum of travelers.

Connecting Toronto and Phoenix

Yesterday’s launch of the new route between Toronto and Phoenix is another step in Lynx’s continuous expansion in the United States.

The airline has been steadily adding destinations to its Toronto network, including Toronto – Orlando and Toronto – Los Angeles.

In the coming months, they’re set to include Fort Myers and Tampa Bay, making travel options even more versatile.

The Lynx Air Growth Story

By December 2023, Lynx will be operating over 22,000 seats per week across its North American network to and from Toronto.

This represents a remarkable 201% growth compared to the previous year, underlining the airline’s commitment to delivering affordable and accessible travel options to Canadians.

To support this extensive growth, Lynx established a pilot and cabin crew base in Toronto during the summer, creating 101 new jobs in the region.

This development not only contributes to the local job market but also strengthens Lynx’s presence in Toronto, making it the airline’s fastest-growing hub.

Words from the CEO

Jim Sullivan, the CEO of Lynx Air, emphasized the significance of this expansion, saying, “Toronto is our fastest growing hub as it has historically been underserved by low-cost carriers, so airfares have been too high for too long. Lynx Air is changing that.”

“We are proud to be the only low-cost carrier offering service between Toronto and Phoenix. Whether you are traveling to enjoy the sunshine, golf, take in the nightlife, or catch a sporting event, Lynx will ensure a great flying experience at an ultra-affordable price.”

An Enthusiastic Reception

The introduction of the new Phoenix route has been well-received by key stakeholders. Janik Reigate, Director, Strategic Customer Relationships at the Greater Toronto Airports Authority, expressed their support for the new service, stating,

“We are pleased to see Lynx continue to grow its route offering from Toronto Pearson. This new service to Phoenix will provide increased choice for passengers looking to escape Canada’s winter weather.”

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego added her thoughts, saying, “Today, Phoenix is celebrating another milestone in our city’s connectivity and growth. The new Lynx route between Phoenix and Toronto is another example of how we’re working to expand opportunities for our residents and visitors alike.”

“These flights will not only bring our two great cities closer together but will also open the door to new economic, cultural, and personal ties.”

“We look forward to welcoming travelers from Toronto to the sunshine and hospitality of the Phoenix area, and we’re excited to see the positive impact this route will have on our community.”
