Lufthansa will begin flights to Rovaniemi from Frankfurt on November 30 this year.

Flights will operate on Tuesdays and Saturdays, on the following time schedule:

  • LH852                 Frankfurt 08:50                              Rovaniemi 12:50
  • LH853                 Rovaniemi 13:50                            Frankfurt 15:50

In their statement, this is how Lufthansa have advertised the new flights:

“Wintertime is Christmas time and anyone who has always wanted to visit Santa Claus in his “official” hometown now has the chance to do so non-stop with Lufthansa from Frankfurt.”

“From November 30, 2024, the airline will be flying twice a week from Frankfurt to Rovaniemi, the capital of Lapland in northern Finland, for the first time.”

“Rovaniemi is located on the Arctic Circle and is surrounded by untouched nature.”

“The city is an ideal starting point for exploring breathtaking natural phenomena such as the Northern Lights or spectacular cross-country ski resorts.”

As well as Rovaniemi, Lufthansa has also mentioned the following flights that will be extended:

  • Frankfurt to Chisinau – Extended to Winter 2024/25.
  • Munich to Nantes – Extended to Winter 2024/25.

Whilst it may not seem like much, the airline still has time to unveil more flights before the Winter period begins.

Furthermore, it also shows what demand is looking like for the latter stages of 2024.

In conclusion, it is an exciting development for Lufthansa that they are entering the Lapland Christmas market.

Looking ahead, all eyes will be on launch day to see what load factors look like and whether an expansion is on the cards.

Furthermore, all eyes will be on how well received Nantes & Chisinau will be over that period of the year.

But for now, all eyes will be on how the airline’s Summer performs before entering the Winter season.
