China Southern Airlines has inked an exclusive eight-year contract with Lufthansa Technik for the technical support of auxiliary power units (APUs) in its A350 fleet.
This partnership signifies a strategic collaboration between two aviation giants and underscores their commitment to excellence in aircraft maintenance.
APU Maintenance Agreement
Under the terms of the long-term agreement, Lufthansa Technik, will be responsible for providing comprehensive maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) services for the Honeywell HGT1700 APUs installed in China Southern Airlines’ A350 aircraft.
The specialized APU workshops of Lufthansa Technik located in Hamburg, Germany, will serve as the hub for delivering these services, ensuring the highest standards of quality and reliability.
Honeywell Endorsement and Technical Expertise
The selection of Lufthansa Technik as the maintenance partner by Honeywell, the manufacturer of the HGT1700 APU, further underscores the technical prowess and reliability of the German-based MRO provider.
The HGT1700 auxiliary power unit (APU) is derived from Honeywell’s 331 series APU, optimized for the Airbus A350 XWB.

The APU incorporates industry-leading technological advancements to reduce weight, maximize performance and provide safe, efficient and low-cost operations.
Being designated as the official warranty station and receiving approval to conduct MRO services on this APU type furthers Lufthansa Technik’s recognized expertise in servicing critical aircraft components.

The collaboration encompasses a diverse range of services tailored to meet the specific requirements of China Southern Airlines’ A350 fleet.
In addition to maintenance, repair, and overhaul services, Lufthansa Technik will also extend support in terms of spare APU provisioning and engineering services throughout the duration of the contract.
