Lufthansa Technik Malta (LTM) celebrates a successful first: the completion of a base maintenance event on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

This accomplishment follows just months after LTM announced its expansion to include the popular widebody aircraft in its service portfolio.

In preparation for supporting the 787, LTM invested millions of euros. This investment covered training technical experts and acquiring necessary tools and materials.

This strengthens LTM’s position as Europe’s leading center for widebody base maintenance within the Lufthansa Technik network.

First Complete C-Check

The completed C-Check is a comprehensive inspection of the aircraft’s various systems and structure.

For the 787, which relies heavily on composite materials, LTM leveraged its experience with similar materials used in the Airbus A350.

Additionally, LTM utilized expertise from other Lufthansa Technik locations for tasks like applying non-destructive testing procedures to composite materials.

Krzysztof Krolak, Vice President Technical Operations at LOT Polish Airlines, the aircraft’s owner, expressed satisfaction. “We’re thrilled with the completion of this first base maintenance check on our 787-9 by Lufthansa Technik Malta.”

“This achievement, coming so soon after LTM’s expansion announcement, showcases the network’s exceptional capabilities and technical expertise.”

Maria Cilia, LTM’s Chief Executive Officer, echoed the sentiment. “After years of servicing Airbus models exclusively, we’re excited to return to working on Boeings. It’s especially rewarding to welcome the Dreamliner in its unique LOT livery.”

“This milestone signifies our growth into a widebody center of excellence. I express my gratitude to our customers for their trust and to my team for their dedication and passion.”

Andreas van de Kuil, Vice President Central Sales Europe and CIS, added, “This recent layover wasn’t just our first 787 check in Malta; it was also our first base maintenance service for LOT Polish Airlines. We thank LOT for their trust, and we hope to further solidify this cooperative relationship.”
