The extension of Boeing 787 flights from Frankfurt-Munich will be welcomed by those who wish to fly on the jet, but may not be willing to part ways with a lot of cash on long-haul flights.

As per data from Planespotters.net, the German carrier currently has five of the -9 Dreamliners, which are as follows:

  • D-ABPA – Berlin.
  • D-ABPB – Wiesbaden.
  • D-ABPC – Kiel.
  • D-ABPD – Frankfurt am Main.
  • D-ABPE – Dusseldorf.

The first aircraft got delivered in August 2022, with the most recent being delivered back in March 2023.

Operating these short flights with a new aircraft type is also beneficial for crew to get further familiarized with the aircraft, as it is a new and recent fleet type to the Lufthansa crew.

As it stands, it is unclear which 787 will operate these services between Frankfurt and Munich, with this of course, scheduled to change at any point, depending on operational and capacity-based needs.

Looking ahead, it will be interesting to see what the load factors will be like on these flights, as it will come as no surprise when enthusiasts are booking tickets on those flights.

But for now, all eyes will be on how these services run, and whether there is any potential for these to be extended again into the Summer 2024 season.
