Abelo, a leading lessor in the turboprop market, celebrates a significant milestone with the successful delivery of MSN875, a newly converted ATR72 cargo aircraft, to Renegade Air.

This marks a first for both Abelo, with their initial ATR72 freighter conversion, and also for Kenya’s aviation sector.

It serves to introduce the ATR as a novel aircraft type to Wilson Airport’s busy aviation scene.

Conversion for Cargo Operations

Previously a passenger aircraft, the ATR72 has undergone conversion to cater to the Kenyan market’s flourishing cargo demands, reflecting its dynamic growth and evolving needs.

Renegade Air’s strategic shift from Dash8 to the larger ATR72 signifies their success to date and current growth trajectory.

This upgrade aims to bolster their operational capabilities and address the rising cargo requirements within the region.

A First for Kenyan Regional Aviation

The addition of MSN875 to Renegade’s fleet goes beyond simply increasing cargo capacity. It also represents a pivotal development for regional aviation.

Stephen Gorman, CEO of Abelo, expressed his enthusiasm about the delivery. He explained the relevance of the freighter conversion.

“This ATR72 conversion project not only extends the aircraft’s operational life beyond the standard 25 years. It also underscores our commitment to innovative and sustainable solutions for the aviation industry.”

“We are delighted to support Renegade Air’s expansion strategy and contribute to the dynamism of Kenya’s aviation sector.”

Renegade Air will immediately start using MSN875 for cargo operations. This incorporation will enhance service delivery and operational efficiency across their network.

The aircraft is set to play a vital role in their ongoing efforts to adapt to market needs and ensure reliable air cargo services throughout the region.

Abelo remains dedicated to supporting Renegade Air, the development of ATR operations in Africa, and the collective journey towards sustainable aviation.
