Australian low-cost carrier Jetstar celebrates a remarkable achievement in 2024: two decades of operation and its 100th domestic route!

The airline will launch its 100th domestic route – operating daily flights between Melbourne (Avalon) Airport and Brisbane from 28 June.

Melbourne Avalon – Brisbane

The new route, commencing daily flights on June 28th, 2024, will connect Melbourne (Avalon) Airport (AVV) with the Queensland capital of Brisbane.

This strategic addition to Jetstar’s network enhances connectivity between Southeast Queensland and Victoria, specifically benefiting residents of Greater Melbourne, Geelong, and Western Victoria.

Passengers from these regions will gain easier access to the vibrant city of Brisbane. Similarly, Queenslanders can explore the cultural hub of Melbourne, the breathtaking Surf Coast, and the world-renowned Great Ocean Road.

Rising Melbourne Demand

This expansion aligns with Jetstar’s focus on leveraging Melbourne (Avalon) Airport as a growing hub.

Brisbane becomes the third destination offered by Jetstar from Avalon airport. This continues the airline’s dedication to diversifying its Melbourne and Victoria route offerings.

This strategy caters to the rising demand for flights to and from Melbourne’s second international airport. Flight services operate 24/7 to facilitate convenient travel options.

To commemorate this landmark achievement and their commitment to budget-friendly travel, Jetstar will launch a special 12-hour sale.

Starting at midday AEDT on Wednesday, March 27th, 2024, one-way fares between Melbourne (Avalon) and Brisbane will be available for as low as $49 (conditions apply).

This sale presents an excellent opportunity for budget-conscious travelers to explore new destinations or reconnect with loved ones.

Industry Figures Applaud the Expansion

The announcement of the new route garnered positive responses from key industry figures. Jetstar Group CEO Stephanie Tully expressed her enthusiasm for the new service. “The launch of flights between Melbourne (Avalon) and Brisbane marks a significant milestone for Jetstar.”

“This route signifies the first time we’ve operated 100 domestic routes. It is a feat made possible by the introduction of our state-of-the-art NEO aircraft.”

“The direct connection between Avalon and Brisbane provides Victorians with a cost-effective option for traveling to Queensland. It simultaneously boosts tourism to the stunning Surf Coast region and its surrounds.”

Government officials echoed these sentiments, highlighting the positive impact on various sectors. The Victorian Government expressed its support for the additional flights, recognizing the potential benefits for tourism, education, business, and trade across the state.

Similarly, representatives from the tourism sector emphasized the timeliness of the new route, coinciding with a surge in interest in exploring Victoria.

Melbourne (Avalon) Airport: Strategic Growth

Jetstar’s partnership with Melbourne (Avalon) Airport began in 2004, solidifying a long-standing and successful collaboration.

Situated just 45 minutes from Melbourne’s CBD and a mere 20 minutes from Geelong’s CBD, Avalon Airport serves as Victoria and Melbourne’s second 24/7 international airport.

Its strategic location offers a significant advantage, boasting a catchment area of 3.3 million people within a 60-minute drive.

This accessibility makes Melbourne (Avalon) Airport one of Australia’s largest airport catchments, contributing significantly to regional development and travel options.

Looking Ahead: Continued Growth and Affordability

Jetstar’s 100th domestic route and the expansion into Melbourne (Avalon) Airport mark a significant turning point for the airline.

This strategic move strengthens Jetstar’s position as a leader in affordable domestic travel, catering to a broader range of passengers and destinations.

As Jetstar celebrates its 20th anniversary, passengers can anticipate a continued focus on offering budget-friendly fares, expanding route networks, and investing in state-of-the-art aircraft to enhance the overall travel experience.

With its commitment to growth and innovation, Jetstar is poised to take flight for another successful two decades.
