Jetstar marks 12 million passenger milestone in Newcastle

Jetstar has officially flown its 12 millionth customer to Newcastle, 19 years after it began operating from the New South Wales city and holiday hotspot.  

Newcastle is a part of Jetstar history as the departure point of its inaugural flight Melbourne flight in 2004. 

 A Trip Down Memory Lane


After nearly two decades of flight operations, the New South Wales city is well and truly a part of the airline’s regional network.

Newcastle holds a special place in Jetstar’s heart, being the starting point of its inaugural flight to Melbourne on May 25, 2004.

What began as a single route has blossomed into a robust network, with Jetstar currently operating over 40 flights each week connecting Newcastle to Melbourne, Brisbane, the Gold Coast, and Cairns.

Jetstar has played a pivotal role in fostering connectivity and supporting the tourism economy of the city and the surrounding Hunter region.

Carrying over half a million passengers annually to and from Newcastle, the airline has become an indispensable part of the city’s growth story.

Milestone: The 12 Millionth Passenger


Among the passengers on that memorable Wednesday was the Marlin family, representing the 12 millionth customer.

Jetstar, true to its customer-centric approach, surprised them with a special welcome gift, adding a touch of celebration to their journey.

Jenn Armor, Jetstar’s Executive Manager, Customer, expressed gratitude to the Newcastle community for their unwavering support over the past two decades.

She reflected on the airline’s journey, stating, “12 million customers into Newcastle is a huge milestone for us and one that wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the people of Newcastle.”

Nestled on the picturesque Hunter Coast, New South Wales, is a vibrant city brimming with coastal charm, cultural attractions, and outdoor adventures.

The surrounding coastline is adorned with stunning beaches, perfect for swimming, surfing, and sunbathing. Nobbys Beach, with its iconic lighthouse, is a popular spot for families, while Merewether Beach, known for its world-class waves, is a haven for surfers.
