ITA Airways recently unveiled a new nonstop route connecting Chicago O’Hare International Airport and Rome Fiumicino Airport.

This new addition marks a significant milestone for the Italian carrier. It further solidifies their presence in the United States, their most crucial international market.

The inaugural flight took off from Chicago at 3:00 PM local time on 7 April, with passengers settling into the comfort of a cutting-edge Airbus A330neo.

This state-of-the-art aircraft embodies the latest advancements in technology, design, and efficiency, ensuring a smooth and comfortable journey across the Atlantic.

The launch was met with immense enthusiasm, celebrated with a ribbon-cutting ceremony directly at Chicago O’Hare.

Prominent figures graced the event, including airline representatives Emiliana Limosani, ITA Airways Chief Commercial Officer and CEO Volare.

Also present were notable figures including Thomas Botzios, Consul General of Italy in Chicago; and Amber Ritter, Managing Deputy Commissioner and Chief Commercial Officer for the Chicago Department of Aviation.

Significance of New Chicago-Rome Service

Emiliana Limosani, ITA Airways Chief Commercial Officer expressed her delight, stating, “This new destination strengthens our presence in the U.S. and enhances connections between Italy and the American Midwest.”

“The Chicago-Rome route caters to both leisure and business travelers, offering a convenient and comfortable travel option.”

Thomas Botzios, Consul General of Italy in Chicago, emphasized the cultural significance. “This new connection brings Italy closer to the heart of the U.S., fostering stronger ties between our communities.”

“It caters to the large Italian community in the Midwest and allows for easier travel for those with heritage connections.”

Commissioner Jamie L. Rhee of the Chicago Department of Aviation highlighted the local benefits, saying, “O’Hare is now connected to more Italian destinations than ever before.”

“This new route allows Chicagoans to experience the rich culture and history of Rome firsthand.”

Rich Gamble, Interim President and CEO of Choose Chicago, echoed the sentiment, adding, “We are thrilled to welcome more visitors from Italy and Europe to explore Chicago. This new route opens doors for cultural exchange and economic opportunities.”

Rising Frequencies and Network Expansion

The Chicago-Rome route will initially operate six times per week, with an increase to daily service planned for June.

This commitment underscores the anticipated demand and further strengthens the connection between these two vibrant cities.

Looking beyond this specific route, ITA Airways has ambitious plans for the summer season. They aim to offer a staggering 140 weekly flights between North America and Italy, including a new Toronto-Rome route launching on May 10th.

This ambitious expansion caters to the surge in travel demand typically seen during the summer months.

The Chicago connection is just one piece of a larger puzzle. ITA Airways’ summer expansion strategy encompasses a whopping 57 new destinations added to their network.

This includes exciting new routes to Toronto, Riyadh, Accra, Kuwait City, Dakar, and Jeddah.

Additionally, seasonal connections to popular Mediterranean tourist destinations like Rhodes, Ibiza, and Sardinia will cater to the summer travel crowd seeking sun and relaxation.

These new routes, coupled with the existing long-haul connections to major cities like New York, Boston, and Tokyo, solidify ITA Airways’ position as a key player in intercontinental travel.

Summary

The launch of the new Chicago-Rome route signifies a win-win situation for both passengers and ITA Airways.

Passengers gain a convenient and comfortable travel option between two major cultural hubs. ITA Airways, in turn, strengthens its foothold in the lucrative North American market and expands its global reach.

This strategic move opens doors for increased tourism, business travel, and cultural exchange.
